SWF 9 Specs released!

Emmy Huang announced the release of SWF version 9 specs, which includes FLV specs, yesterday.

Changes in the SWF specifications from version 8 are relatively minor compared to contents of the new AS3 actionscripts tag: DoABC. ABC (Actionscript ByteCode) format was made available earlier.

As with SWF 8 specs, you need to agree to the license terms, which mainly prohibits you make use of the information to write your own Flash/SWF player. Also the specs does not include information about AMF3 for FLV files.

SWF (and FLV) 8 Specs Released

SWF version 8 specs, which includes FLV specs as usual,  were released earlier today.

FLV format is better documented this time and includes data packet format.

Most annoying part for me was Acrobat Reader 6 requirement, as I only have v5 and normally wouldn’t install bloated later versions. Good news is that Adobe has the download for v6.01 and doesn’t force you to download the latest version. Still for Windows it’s a 15.9MB (!) download, probably I’ll install it on a separate machine first to see what baggage it has.

We will be releasing updates to our software as soon as possible after revising them according to the newly released specs.

SWF7 Specs Released!

SWF 7 file format specs were released by Macromedia.

The documentation seems better than SWF6 specs, though similar, and Macromedia was quick releasing the specs this time.
