Public Flash 8 Player beta (English only) is now available at http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/public_beta/ .
We won’t be able to enjoy new Flash 8 (8ball) features obviously, because there’s no Flash 8 content, – still ActionScript performance enhancements are to be observed. The reason of this release is to test the new player with existing content and ensure compatibility. There are also a new installation mechanisms to test.
The beta Player seems very stable and compatible with existing content, I don’t think you should skip the download because it’s a beta. Also, if you are a developer, it’s imperative that you test your own content with this release. Let Macromedia know the few glithces probably there and we will have a better Player released…

Does anyone know if that new site FLY is done in Flash 8? http://www.liveonthefly.com
It’s incredible. I have no idea how they did it! I heard on BombShock that EVB did it?
Hi Stewart,
A very well done site indeed. But I don’t think they have used Flash 8 because it’s not out yet and because the site requires Player 6 or above.
As I understand, Flash 8 will support video with alpha, but there are ways of achieving the effect even now with current tools (Also the drop shadow).
The videos used on the site seem pre-rendered (with the background) and embedded, to be able to play with Player 6.
Best regards,
Burak
